PRIME Time

Steakhouse after steakhouse claims to have the “The Best Steak in Town.”  But, how is that even possible?  The best means the best and there should only be one…who is voting here anyway?

Whoever you are, you can stop…because I found it!

Best steak goes to…

Prime Steak House and Piano Bar in Park City!

Prime’s signature filet, with bluefin crabmeat and Bernaise sauce is not only the restaurant’s favorite dish, but everyone else’s too.  The steak was cooked to a medium P-E-R-F-E-C-T-I-O-N.  I was envisioning the crabmeat topping to be on the skimpy side – but, boy, was I wrong!  The heaping pile of crab was overly generous and delicious.  And even better yet, the steak plates arrive sizzling hot.  Literally. How cool is that?!
Prime’s Signature Filet
Everything is served a la carte so be sure to order a side too.  I went for the asparagus. Thick and crunchy and served with a side of Hollandaise, it was the perfect compliment to my tender, juicy filet.

Something else you should know about me: anytime I see Molten Cake on a menu – I order it (same with cookie pies, but that is another story for another day).  The Prime Molten Chocolate cake requires a 20-minute heads up as Prime makes each Molten cake to order.  And it’s worth it.  The middle was velvety…and smooth…and perfect.

Prime Molten Chocolate Cake
I do have one “complaint” though (if you can even call if that): the cake was just too small (especially for sharing)!  Maybe I am being greedy, but…it was a bit of a tease.  I always preach portion control, but that doesn’t apply to desserts, does it? 🙂

A couple other things you should know: Prime offers two for one entrees.  You can find a coupon in the local paper, or just mention it to your server (if they don’t mention it first, which they may).  And you can even bring your own bottle of wine, if you in turn buy a bottle there as well.

I will visit Prime Steak House again and again.  The piano bar is a ridiculous amount of fun. I’ll put it this way – I sat down to dinner at 5:30pm and I left the bar at 11:00pm…when the pianist stopped playing (and the restaurant was closing so I had no other choice).  I got sucked in – and I promise you will too.

The "Bomb" Bara

Google “Best Restaurants in Salt Lake City” and at the top of the list you will find…

…drum roll please…

….BAMBARA!  Nestled inside the classy Hotel Monaco, Bambara is one of the hippest restaurants I have been to yet.  It has an open kitchen, modern decor and an overall lively atmosphere.

Holy moly where do I begin? There are so many wonderful things I want to say about this place, but for the sake of my time (and yours) I am just going to highlight a couple of my favorites:

Blue Cheese House Cut Potato Chips.  Enough said.  Do I even need to elaborate here?! LOOK at that picture.  House cut, thinly sliced, fried to perfection potato chips with a creamy, melty, rich blue cheese topping.  Come onnn – how is this even fair?!  It is just SO good (and so bad at the same time).

We aren’t counting calories here, right?

Thank G.

Next up: Silky Corn Bisque with Jonah Crab and Basil Oil.  If you are a soup person, this will hands down become a favorite.  If you’re not a soup person, well, you’re about to become one.  I’m a huge soup connoisseur, but even I did not know that a corn bisque could be so good.  This was legit the tastiest soup I think I have ever had.

The entrees were all delicious, but these apps were just off the charts.  So when you get to Bambara, please do yourself a favor and order the above.  I promise you won’t regret it.

ATTENTION: Meat Lovers

Next stop: Moochie’s Meatballs and More!, the second “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” dive to make my “must try” list.

Moochie’s has two signature sandwiches – an authentic Philly cheesesteak and a handmade meatball.  How do I choose?  I don’t.  I ordered both.  Duh.

The cheesesteak won me over instantaneously – how can you not indulge in a little greasy goodness once in a while?  Guilty.  The thinly sliced ribeye steak was tender and the American cheese was ooey gooey.  Mmm Mmm good.  The handmade meatball was just as sinful – with moist meatballs and perfectly melted provolone cheese.  Even the bread deserves a honorable mention – fresh and mushy, just how I like it.

I really tried to make these pics look pretty, but it just wasn’t happening.  The subs are what they are and they ARE gooooood.  Messy?  Yes.  Worth it?  Absolutely.

The atmosphere was nothing to write home about, but that’s not what we are reviewing here so I will stick to what I know and that is GOOD FOOD.

Note: Moochie’s menu even tells you HOW to order the Philly cheesesteak.  I was sure to read up on this before visiting because the last person I wanted to be was the “newbie.”  So for future reference (you’re welcome): Choose a 6-inch or a 12-inch, only tell them if you do NOT want onions and let them know if you want to add mushrooms or peppers.  Easy enough.

Got Buffalo?

Buffalo chicken wings, dip, pizza, sandwiches, rangoons…let’s face it – ANYTHING made with buffalo chicken is delicious.  And the “buff chick” phenomenon continues to spread, with more and more dishes incorporating this spicy, savory ingredient.

While I drool at the thought of all the dishes above, when cooking for myself, I try to be remotely healthy.  That’s why I was ecstatic to find a recipe for…

Wait for it…

Buffalo chicken…lettuce wraps!

But, it gets even better – CROCKPOT buffalo chicken lettuce wraps.  So let me get this straight – I can make a healthier version of my favorite food…and have it ready when I get home from work?!?

Done and done.

Thanks to Skinny Taste Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps my life is now complete.  I followed the recipe almost exactly – using Frank’s wing sauce as my “hot cayenne pepper sauce,” but incorporating broccoli slaw instead of just the shredded carrots.  Feeling highly motivated, I went on to make my own Skinny Blue Cheese Dressing.  Again, I followed this recipe to a tee with one confession:  I ran out of Greek yogurt so I probably used a bit more light mayo than I should have…and I also decided to incorporate some fresh minced garlic on top of the garlic powder.

A healthier version of heaven

Squeeze the lime – it’s the Mexican way!

First stop: Lone Star Taqueria

One thing you should know about Salt Lake is that it has Mexican restaurants on every corner, but this my friends – is the real deal.  Lone Star Taqueria – authentic, fast Mexican food.  Not only was it featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives, but it is legit RIGHT next to my place!  Spoiled?  Probably. You can eat in, grab a table outside, or even hit up the drive through…I’m loving my options.

It was packed, of course, but the line moved quickly.  I went with the chips and guac and a sampling of tacos: Carne Asada (grilled beef), Pollo Asado (grilled chicken), Shrimp Taco and Pescado Taco – the house specialty made with fresh fish (that day being Tilapia), marinated and grilled with shredded cabbage, tomato, fresh cilantro, onion and lime on a soft white corn tortilla, served with Lone Star’s own jalapeño mayonnaise.  The jalapeno mayo was to die for – literally could have eaten it by the spoonful.  The fish taco was definitely my favorite, but they were all quite tasty.

Shrimp Taco and Pescado Taco

While the tacos are incredible as is, they are pretty basic – you get your meat, cilantro, onion and lime.  So, be sure to sample some of Chef Manuel’s homemade salsas – I tried the hot and the pico de gallo – both were fresh and delicious.

AND… best of all, four tacos, chips and guac and one bottle of Dos Equis rang in under $23 – bonus!

I did it!

Welcome to Wicked Salty…where East Coast Cuisine meets West Coast Canteen!

I am, always have been and always will be a foodie. I love eating food, cooking food, writing about food and taking pictures of food. So, here I am – FINALLY starting the blog that I have talked about F-O-R-E-V-E-R. It only took a 2,500 mile move to get this ‘ish started…

A little about me and then we can get to the good stuff.  My dream is to be a food critic (Guy Fieri to be exact – yes, I’m pretty sure I would be a dude if it could be him). I grew up on Cape Cod – living there 25 years until just recently relocating to Salt Lake City for work. I told myself that this would be the perfect time to start my “infamous” food blog because there would be an endless amount of new restaurants to try. I went on to research all of the best restaurants in the area, first checking out those that have been on my all time favorite show “Diners Drive- ins and Dives”, then reading up on the “Best of Utah 2012” and of course, talking to the locals.

Everything is different here: I traded the ocean for the mountains, the humidity for the desert (my hair thanks me) and the best fried seafood for the finest fry sauce (which is definitely something I could get used to!)

Enough about me – let’s get to it. I will not only be sharing my restaurant rendezvous here on Wicked Salty, but my personal cooking experiences as well.

Thanks for visiting – ENJOY!
